Earning Your Rating
The multi-engine land rating is an “add-on” to an existing single-engine land private, commercial, or ATP certificate. For this rating, both VFR and IFR operations will be emphasized. There are no minimum time requirements for the multi-engine land rating; however you will need an instructor endorsement for flight and ground training prior to taking the check ride. There is no written exam, only an oral exam and practical check ride are required.
Pilots with a multi-engine rating enjoy the incredible improvement in the performance and capabilities of multi-engine aircraft. Our multi-engine programs focus on flight in both visual (VFR) and instrument (IFR) meteorological conditions.
While technically, there is no minimum number of instruction hours required for this rating, it does require an instructor endorsement of safety and proficiency before the final checkride.
While a multi-engine rating can be added to a private pilot certificate, in most cases it makes more sense to wait until a pilot has a commercial pilot certificate and instrument rating as this will save the pilot a substantial amount of money in the long run.

1969 Twin Cessna 310P
The OCFC 1969 Twin Cessna 310P is an excellent choice for adding your Multi Engine Land class rating to your existing Private or Commercial Pilot Certificate.
Docile handling characteristics, excellent performance, and simple systems make for a relatively simple transition into flying larger, faster, and more capable aircraft. Powered by upgraded Colemill 10550E engines, she has plenty of power to fly on one engine, and has been the ideal entry-level twin engine airplane for decades. If your future flying entails fully exercising the privileges of your Commercial Pilot certificate, then a multi engine rating is nearly a requirement, and this airplane will get you there.
This airplane is equipped with a Garmin G500 Primary Flight & Navigation Display, which, alongside the Garmin GTN750 touch-screen GPS navigator and the Century Ill autopilot system make this a Technically Advanced Aircraft, and is a great introduction to flying with more integrated aircraft control and navigation systems.
